How do you draw a path?

Creating cool backgrounds is the easy part. (coming up with the idea is the hard part :D )

My question is how do most people draw the paths?
I use paint.net with a lot of plug-ins

Also if I can indulge you with a 2nd question....

I noticed almost all (perhaps all) don't have Diagonal path.

Such as

1,2
2,3
3,4

Is there a way to test a map you made? or import the coords into the map editor?

Re: How do you draw a path?

no, you cant test it.

and there are not much diagonal paths for a reason:
- they distance between diagonal coords is bigger than on horizontal/vertical ones. but the creeps travel it at the same time, hence the creeps move faster (source: pythagoras)
- the path width is usually fixed and no towers can be build on the path. if the creeps move diagonally, they are going to overlap with towers built nearby. looks awful.

the few maps which have diagonal paths (like snakysnake or whatever its called) DO suck.

:)

edit: to you first question: photoshop, as for the rest

Re: How do you draw a path?

Thanks,

I understand the diagonals are faster...was thinking that might add a new element.
I was wondering about the tower overlap and the visual aspect of that, thanks for answering that.

As far as how to draw the path, I was referring to the actually how part.

First I start with the grid

I then create a second layer over the grid

then I zoom in and draw rectangles,

I then go in and fill in the rectangles.

do a select all and then add the effects.

The problem is that the drawing of the rectangles is slow and tediuos. I was wondering if there is a faster way

Re: How do you draw a path?

i usually make one rectangle, fill it, and then copy and move it with shift+left. copy&move over and over, and when done, merge it to 1 layer.

Re: How do you draw a path?

You can also cut out the path from the grid, then select the area created and fill the path onto another layer.
Think it, design it, build it, run it. That's what I do.

okay i just read in another post that the 1,41x-speed has been set to 1x-speed by now. (source: easyx) ^^
